About Hymn Harbor

A living collection of hymns rooted in oral tradition.

Why Hymn Harbor exists

Many communities sing hymns that have never been published in a formal hymnal. These hymns live in people's memories, in handwritten notebooks, and in scattered phone recordings passed between friends. When an elder passes, their hymns can disappear with them.

Hymn Harbor gives these hymns a shared, searchable home. A place where any community member can contribute what they know, and where the collective memory becomes permanent and accessible to everyone.

How it works

Each community manages its own catalog. Members submit hymns they know, and community moderators review them for accuracy and completeness before they're published to the catalog.

Once published, hymns are searchable by any word in any stanza, browsable alphabetically, and available offline on your phone. Audio recordings from the community bring the written text to life.

No single person owns a hymn. Contributions are shared freely, corrections are welcome, and the catalog grows richer over time through collective effort.

Who it's for

Hymn Harbor is for church communities, worship groups, and cultural associations whose hymn tradition lives primarily in oral form. If your community sings hymns that aren't in any published book, Hymn Harbor is built for you.
